ACU&S Postal Ballot Result

ACU&S Issued the following Statement on Tuesday 17 December 2007

In October 2007 General Council agreed to ballot members on a proposal to set up the ECB Association of Cricket Officials (ACO) to bring together the Association of Cricket Umpires and Scorers, and the ECB Officials Association.

The result of the ballot is that 2,541 votes were cast in favour of the proposal, and 854 votes against. Accordingly the necessary majority has been secured and the proposal has been adopted. Another 151 ballot papers were received, either after the closing date or with insufficient or incorrect details. These papers have not been included in the count, as the scrutineers have confirmed that they would not have affected the result.

As a result ACO will now be set up, to commence on 1st January 2008, and ACU&S will cease activities, save for the winding up of the affairs of the Association.

A Special General Meeting will, in due course, be convened to approve the winding up of ACU&S and the disposal of the Association’s assets, including any balance in the Association’s accounts. If the steps preliminary to winding up can be completed by February 2008, then the SGM will be convened for 15th March, the date provisionally fixed for the AGM. If that time scale cannot be met, then the AGM will be arranged for a later date, to be held at the same time as the SGM.

Members will receive notice of these meetings.  In the meantime members are advised that the Administration Office is now closed. All correspondence, except for that of a financial nature should be forwarded to the General Secretary at 5, Camp Square, Thorner, Leeds LS14 3BX.

Correspondence of a financial nature should be sent to the Treasurer at 77 Moatbrook Avenue, Codsall, Wolverhampton, WV8 1DJ.

Note to BDUA Members

Members of Bassetlaw and District Umpires’ Association are assured that it will be ‘Business as Usual’. The advertised Training Courses will proceed, members’ insurance and support is ensured.  You will be advised when there is any change or need for action.  There is clearly much to decide in the amalgamation of the two Associations, not the least being that ECBOA members have not yet been balloted.  In the meantime, contact the Secretary if you have any issues or queries.

Training Courses

Those ACU&S training programmes, including examinations, scheduled to be held between January 2008 and March 2008 should continue as planned. These will be run by ACU&S Instructors and Examiners.

The majority of these courses will be self-financing, alternatively the expenses should be met from funds currently held by ACU&S Regions and Branches.

Any assessments currently being processed will continue to a conclusion, provided that details are submitted to the Assessment Panel promptly.

All qualifications achieved will be recognised by the ECB Association of Cricket Officials. Formal, written, acknowledgement of achievements will be provided, in due course, by the ECB Association of Cricket Officials

Examination administration should continue as normal.

All Instructors and Examiners are advised to join the ECB Association of Cricket Officials before 31st January, otherwise they will not be covered by insurance. Attendees should be invited to join the ECB ACO, but they will not be required to join the Association to attend a course, or to sit an examination.

All ACU&S members will shortly be receiving an application form by post. Blank forms will be provided to Instructors. Alternatively, application forms can be downloaded by logging onto the Association’s web site.

It is anticipated further guidance will be issued in due course, once the Interim Board of ECB Association of Cricket Officials has been set up, and is functioning. In the meantime any queries should be directed to the current ACU&S officers.
